Many of the greatest leaders in history were Stoics. It’s no wonder considering Stoicism’s emphasis on self-mastery. Success and leadership come from the reflection in the mirror. The key is not to react or respond to external circumstances. The Stoics taught us that although we cannot control what happens to us in life, we can control our perception. That makes all the difference.

To respond you need to be aware and in control so as not to let yourself be dominated by emotions. We can choose to perceive events in a productive or destructive way. The Stoics decided to see the glass as half full. They saw the positive side in everything.

Stoicism is really a wonderful philosophy. Not only because of the principles it defends, which may not be to everyone’s taste but also because of the approach with which it was conceived. It is an eminently practical philosophy that seeks to function in real life. Beyond having its metaphysical, epistemological position, or any other of the branches that philosophy studies, what really matters to Stoicism is ethics: the art of living well. Perhaps because of this, their authors have a characteristic that would do much good to philosophy in general: they are perfectly understood. Seneca or Marcus Aurelius speaks to the reader as one would speak to a friend.

Meditate on Your Thoughts

Only an attentive mind can filter and reverse bad thoughts. Stoicism taught the clear distinction between your thoughts and behaviours. It’s like that old saying, think before you act. The mindless person acts without thinking.

The next time you confront someone in a frustrating conversation or if your schedule is out of control, stop for a moment to process what happened, then ask yourself: “What is the best way to respond?” The simple act provokes the self-reflection you need to put an end to negative and impulsive responses.

New Day, a New Beginning

The Stoics saw each day as a new opportunity. Remember, you only need one situation, one conversation to completely change the trajectory of your life. A bad day doesn’t mean it should be a bad week. Failure to turn in a job on time can lead to the rejection of certain jobs. When cancer is found, it needs to be removed before it spreads throughout the body. Put an end to the domino effect before your little mistakes turn into big crises.

Philosophical Support: Keep Calm

In reality, this knowledge can be applied during moments of crisis as meditation can influence the understanding and transformation of any catastrophic event that occurs in life and the community.

Meditations: Extend the limits of virtue to reach stoic nature in its full essence

We know that to achieve happiness, it is necessary to be Virtuous. And to be Virtuous you have to live reasonably. In short, to focus attention on the internal state of the soul, the correct action of assent, which consequently refuses to focus on external elements.

Living according to the Stoic Nature is an expression of Stoicism that cannot be understood literally. Living according to nature could only mean one thing; eat, ensure subsistence, the evolution of the species, that is, everything that we know in principle until now that symbolizes that precept of Nature without further ado. It cannot be understood literally. Living according to nature is an Ethical, Physical, and Logical concept in which we must substitute the word Nature for “Stoic Physical Laws”.
