How to Stop Being Lazy and Unproductive — Day 69

I woke up today to find that there was a massive leak in the kitchen. Luckily, there wasn’t much structural damage to the house, but practically the entire floor had been flooded. So, instead of my usual breakfast and mental preparation for the day, I spent two hours frantically running around the house and talking with the plumbers. It was a very long and stressful morning, but I somehow got through it and still managed to get to exercise.

I will admit that I was pretty drained after this morning’s ordeal, and I wasn’t feeling up for a long day of work. However, just as I was about to sulk through my entire day, a strong sense of will and desire overcame me. I wasn’t going to let some leaky pipe stop me from being the best version of myself! From that point on, all I needed was a granola bar and a quick mindfulness session to get through and thrive.

The leak was fixed by the time I got home, but I still didn’t really feel like being in the house after what I went through this morning. I decided to go on a long run with some sprints. The weather outside was decent enough, and it was nice to get an extended session of cardio for a change. My legs are going to be crazy sore tomorrow, but I’ll take pride in the fact.

Afterwards, I freshened up and took my family out for dinner. I made sure to order one of the restaurant’s healthier meals, while my kids got to eat their fill of chips and other comfort foods. It was nice to spend some time out of the house with family, even if I did come dangerously close to stealing a few of my kids’ chips.

It’s great to see the improvement for the first time in a long time I am feeling confident in my skin.

Life really throws some crazy, unexpected things our way every now and then. I was almost ready to declare the day lost, but something within me managed to rouse my spirits and help me persist through the challenges. After all, I can’t control whether or not my pipes happen to burst, but I can decide to put forth my best effort every single day. I’m glad I was able to adapt and improvise because there’s a good chance I wouldn’t have achieved anything today had I given up at work. I’ve no doubt that this sudden resolve was thanks to my new lifestyle, and I’m intrigued to see what I’ll be able to overcome next.
